Layers and transparency - Pixelmator Community

I would like to be keep the object free so that I will be able to move the object into various pictures. Sorry - but I need the instructions more detailed. When. A layer with 1% opacity is nearly transparent, while a layer with % opacity is entirely opaque. Adjust the opacity of a layer. Select the layer or layers you. Follow thread. Fri Aug 24, pm Big picture, is transparent a color? I mean, zero opacity. Hey all. In my project I need to replace all instances of black with transparent. I'm not making a background transparent. I know how to do that with layers. I tried replace color but it doesn't allow transparent as a replacement choice.

Or does it? Thanks in advance. Fri Aug 24, pm Hi Bill. You're right about replace colour. That won't affect transparency. There are a couple of methods you can use, though. Both may need some tidying up afterward depending on the complexity of your image. Method 1 - If you can select it you can mask it.

Using your favourite selection tools, select everything but the black or select the black and invert the selection. You can move easily between selections and masks. To make a Mask from a selection, just Add Mask to a layer that doesn't have one. To make a selection from a mask, click on the mask and select Load Selection from the edit menu. Method 2 - Clipping masks for the win. Create a copy of your layer. Move this layer underneath the original. Simple stuff like text on a curve and other effects that are so basic to Illustrator.

Tue Jul 30, pm Hi dschaef I'm not convinced that the version of Adobe Illustrator I bought could fit text to a curve. And that was after 15 years of development. I don't think that a comparison to Adobe is the best way forward here. Anyhow you're not here for my rant Here's a fairly quick method for transparent text that should work in Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro.

There are other ways but this one should work for both. Add everything in your image apart from the text you want to make transparent into one group. Let's call this the Image group. Add the text above the Image group. If there are several text objects then group them. Let's call this the Text group. This should give you the 'marching ants' Pixelmator or 'dead ants' Pixelmator Pro selection around your text.

Right-click on the Image group in the layer panel and select the Add Mask. This will mask out the text from the Image group. Tidy up by de-selecting Cmd-D if you need to and hiding the Text group. It doesn't make it transparent. Can someone please give me guidance as to how to make the color transparent - as in "see through" I'm trying to make an overlay graphic to lay on top of a photo - to use as a YouTube Thumbnail Thanks in advance for your help!

Mon Feb 28, am Hey there! Does the project you're working on have more than one layer? If it has a light-colored layer below your image layer, the lighter color will start to see through as you make the image layer more transparent.
